Competitors at Saturday’s Queen Anne Cub Scouts Soapbox Derby get ready to roll. The derby, which has been losing momentum among Scout troops, is alive and well with Troop 70/72. This year featured bullet and kit cars.
Webelo Scouts Anders Charlton, David Minguez and Miles Bellamy sat in a circle nervously waiting for their second heat in thea annual Queen Anne Cub Scouts Soapbox Derby. They were arguing over the best place to put a weight on a car to make it go as fast as possible. "If we put weights on them that would just be madness," concluded Charlton excitedly. John Richard Cothern was arrested July 13 and charged Friday, July 16 with five counts of possessing depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Students at McClure Middle School are learning firsthand what it means to show compassion in their community. Sixth-grade teacher, Bonnie Powers, designed the curriculum for a character-building course called "Appreciating Differences." She had been trained by the Spokane School District to use "Character Counts" in the classroom before coming to Seattle. The course focuses on six pillars of character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.
