The Seattle Film Institute (SFI, 3210 16th Ave. W.) will offer a series of free workshops on Thursdays through July.

Workshops include:

•Basic Motion Design for the Screen: A Primer for 3-D Animators and Motion Graphic Artists, on Thursday, July 17, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. — Learn how to build emotional and visceral reactions with pure motion design, using the essentials of motion shapes, patterns, collisions and continuity.   

•Sound Design in a Nutshell, on July 24, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. — Get an overview of the sound-design process via a two-minute clip from a game trailer and then break it down into the 90 tracks it took to design the sound.

•Auditioning for the Camera: An Actor’s Survival Guide, on July 31, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. — This class covers the tools, abilities and mindset that enable one to turn the most fearsome part of the acting profession into one of the most enjoyable. Topics include headshots and resumes, monologues, cold readings and more.
