Queen Anne author Amy Pennington will use tomatoes fresh from the farmers market to demonstrate recipes from her book “Fresh Pantry: Eat Seasonally, Cook Smart and Learn to Love Your Vegetables,” from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 14, at the Lake City Library (12501 28th Ave. N.E.).

The program is free and open to the public; registration is not required. Books will be available for purchase and signing.

“Fresh Pantry” features simple recipes centered on one vegetable or fruit per month. The recipes show cooks how to create seasonal meals throughout the year.

Pennington is a cook, author, urban farmer and host of the PBS show “Check, Please! Northwest.” She has been named one of Seattle Magazine’s 2013 Top 50 most powerful players in Seattle’s food scene.

She also runs GoGo Green Garden, an urban farming service.
