Mel Butler, cannon musician of Saint Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral, will give a concert on the Wech pipe organ at Queen Anne Lutheran Church, 2400 Eighth Ave. W., on Sunday, Nov. 11, at 3 p.m. A freewill offering will be received, and a reception will follow the concert.

Butler, also a professional violist, performs regularly with the Onyx Chamber Players in Seattle. Before arriving in Seattle in 1991, he was organist and choirmaster for the Downtown Presbyterian Church in Rochester, N.Y., while serving as associate professor of church music at the Eastman School of Music, a violist with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and music director and conductor of the Rochester Bach Festival Chorus.

The concert is made possible through the support of longtime church member Florence Ekstrand, editor of the Queen Anne News from 1968 to 1980, and author of the book “How to Get From 80 to 90 Without Even Trying.” Through the concert, Ekstrand, wishes to express her gratitude to the congregation for their support over the years. She recently celebrated her 95th birthday and lives in a retirement home in Mount Vernon.
