Tickets are now on sale for EMP Museum’s 12th-annual Sound Off!, the Pacific Northwest’s largest battle of the bands for musicians 21 and younger.

Hailing from Portland, Seattle, Tacoma, Bellingham, and other parts of the region, this year’s semifinalists are between the ages of 14 and 21 and represent genres from hip hop and alternative, to electro-pop and garage rock.

The competition kicks off on Feb. 9 with Dave B, Mister Mista, The Fame Riot and Shogun Barbie. The Female Fiends, Maiah Manser, Rose and SHEBEAR will perform Feb. 16. As It Starts, I For Eye, The Rockets and Vervex will take to the stage Feb. 23. (For band and ticket information, visit www.EMPmuseum.org/soundoff.)

The semifinalists will then compete for the Sound Off! 2013 title on March 2 in EMP’s Sky Church.

The Sound Off! finals will also include a “wild card” band from the semifinalist pool, voted into the competition by EMP’s Youth Advisory Board.

All shows begin at 8 p.m. (doors open at 7 p.m.). Performance order is determined by random drawing, immediately preceding each night’s all-ages show.

Prizes for the first-place winner include a highly coveted performance slot at Bumbershoot 2013, and all four finalist bands win gear, studio time, radio airplay and one-on-one consultations with music-industry professionals.

A launch pad for musical careers, Sound Off! has featured many young up-and-coming bands over the years, including The Lonely Forest, Dyme Def, The Globes, Kithkin, Schoolyard Heroes, Sol, The Lonely H, Brite Futures, Tomten and Land of Pines.
