Both Safeway locations in the Queen Anne neighborhood will collect food for the Queen Anne Food Bank (QAFB) in March.

From Thursday, March 20, through Sunday, March 23, shoppers at the Upper Queen Anne Safeway (2100 Queen Anne Ave. N.) can drop off nonperishables in collection bins at the store’s entrance.

Those who shop at the Lower Queen Anne Safeway (516 First Ave. N.) will have a chance to make their contributions from March 27 through 30.

QAFB staff hopes to collect between 500 to 800 pounds of nonperishable foods during the two drives. The food bank is especially in need of items like pasta sauce, peanut butter, canned tuna, and cereal.

QAFB has been serving residents in the 98109, 98119, 98101 and 98121 ZIP codes for more than three years. It distributes thousands of pounds of food to neighbors in need each month through its weekly food bank and distributes more than 500 sack lunches every week through its meal program.
