Here’s hoping your June is filled with great books and farm-fresh produce.
The Buzz Book: “We Were Liars,” by e. lockhart
This bestselling novel was released as young-adult fiction, but some of it’s biggest fans are grown-ups. A wealthy family, a private island, beautiful things and a golden girl named Cadence. Something happened during her 15th summer, something she’s unable to remember. As she struggles to unravel the mystery, the reader is treated to one of the most thrilling, suspenseful, blisteringly smart novels of the year, with an ending that — by all accounts — will leave you gasping for air.
Readers of all ages will enjoy this fantastic book.
The Local Author Buzz: “I Love You More,” by Jennifer Murphy (release date: June 17)
Jennifer Murphy, a wildly talented Seattle writer who regularly roams the cafés and shops of Queen Anne and Magnolia, has written her debut novel. “I Love You More” is garnering praise from PW, Booklist and local bookstores (it’s a staff pick at Queen Anne Book Co).
One man, three wives, the perfect murder. A novel told from different points of view, this perfect summer read has enough twists and turns to keep the plot fresh.
One of the best parts of this book is Picasso, the daughter of the recently deceased Oliver, as the endearing, smart-as-a-whip junior detective.
This one will keep you up past your bedtime.
(Jennifer Murphy will be at Queen Anne Book Co. (1811 Queen Anne Ave. N.) to launch her new book with a reading/signing on June 17 at 7 p.m.)
The Community Buzz: “Washington Food Artisans,” by Leora Bloom
Farmers market season is upon us. The Queen Anne Farmers Market begins Thursday, June 5, at 3 p.m., and the Magnolia Farmers Market begins Saturday, June 7, at 10 a.m. — and this cookbook couldn’t be more appropriate for the occasion.
In an effort to highlight local producers and chefs, Seattle resident Leora Bloom gathered stories and more than 50 recipes from a diverse cast of dedicated farmers (many who participate in our markets), foodies and local chefs in this eye-catching volume.
In addition to these charming profiles, recipes ranging from Washington cherry gazpacho to spiced albacore tuna with stone fruit chutney honey will have you drooling.
(Leora Bloom will be at Queen Anne Book Co. (1811 Queen Anne Ave. N.), sharing samples from and signing copies of her book on June 26 at 7 p.m.)
