Queen Anne’s Susan Carr will read and sing songs from her debut novel, “The Ballad of Desiree,” from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 23 at the Queen Anne Library (400 W. Garfield St.).
“The Ballad of Desiree” is a coming-of-age novel that includes a look at Seattle’s music scene in the 1970s. It follows Desiree, a 22-year-old, free-spirited singer who travels the logging roads of Idaho and Washington. She falls in love, becomes pregnant and then must decide whether to take the leap for a singing career in Los Angeles.
Carr is a playwright, screenwriter, professional actress and singer. She is also a vocal coach to many Grammy-nominated musicians such as Macklemore, Alice in Chains and Alien Ant Farm, as well as local bands Hey Marseilles, Minus the Bear and Pickwick.
The program is free and open to the public; registration is not required. Books will be available for purchase and signing.
