The Seattle Department of Transportation will repair West Nickerson Street where it goes over 15th Avenue West this fall.
The north side of the structure over 15th Avenue West that supports West Nickerson Street has been damaged over the years by oversized vehicles. While the structure is not in any danger, the girder on the north side will be replaced.
The girder replacement will require the westbound lane of West Nickerson Street to be closed for eight to 10 weeks.
The eastbound vehicular lane will remain open to traffic, as will the sidewalk on the south side of this overpass (for bicyclists and pedestrians).
Traffic on 15th Avenue West below the overpass will remain open, although there may be occasional lane restrictions required during off-peak hours in either or both directions.
There will, however, be two overnight instances when the West Nickerson Street overpass and 15th Avenue West below will close for all traffic.
Advance notice of construction activity will be provided once fabrication and delivery schedules are confirmed.
