Pacific Publishing Co.’s newspapers fared well in the 2012 Washington Newspaper Publishers Association’s Better Newspaper Contest.
Former Queen Anne/Magnolia News editor Jeff Bond won two awards for his writing. “Landslide Lessons Learned” earned first place for Best Environmental Story, and “The Lewis Family Finds Happiness in Their Pies” placed third for Best Business Story.
Columnist Matthew Wilemski won first place for Best General Interest Column for his monthly “Roundabout” columns. His winning columns include “Have a Nice Doomsday,” “Too Many Women Still Caught in the Crossfire” and “Tunnel Vision Toward Violence.”
Lead graphic designer and Art Department manager Amy Christian swept the Best Feature Page Design category for associate publication City Living Seattle’s “Anacortes: Forget the Ferry” (third place), “The Letterpress Movement: Where Time Stands Still” (second place) and “Group Art Show Gets ‘Girly’ for February” (first place).
